Larisa Pastushkova Oikoumene.
In theworks of Larissa Pastushkova of last ten years - you may see a world based on the language of symbols – typical for the culture of ancient Iranians, who once inhabited the Altay. Petroglyphs language is fascinating almost lost meanings, guessable in the images of animals, birds, humans and trees, moon and sun. As a shaman once connected the upper and lower worlds - the world of terrestrial and extraterrestrial sphere - so now the modern artist responds to his memory by connecting the material world with the spiritual world. The artist's desire to take himself and to take the viewer to the concept of harmony and wholeness of the present world – it is like the efforts of the shaman rite that connects soul with the body. The petroglyphs and runes as proto-language in the work of Larissa Pastushkova, becomes a form of times recovery, not without reason among her works you can find a series called "The Free mythological reading of grapheme" ( 2005-2007) .
But as a modern artist she uses the artistic techniques of the XX century. First of all, it is collage - like a technique, and also as a method when she uses petroglyphs and runes, and ornament, and modern visual motifs, such as in the "Archetypes" (2002) . The result is a multi-layered in the perception and understanding the picture of the universe. But not only layering technique Larissa uses. The transformation of the original elements, that creates a new form - one of her favorite techniques. "Mounds of Ak- Kalaha " (2005 ), in the intertwining of zoomorphic motifs are transformed into decorative carpet, "Pasture" (2004) plunges into the world of green nature and at grapheme N 27 "Archer" and "Journey of signs " (2005) – the technique brought to the high purity .
The artist has exactly the line that is always expressive. Pattern and color in its harmonious unity, recreate in the works of Larissa Pastushkova historical integrity of world creation, when there is no difference between epochs . In fact, in the works she creates modern petroglyphs , which store the values of the ancients . "The Garden" (2006 ), where a pale - pink clouds crown runes becomes a symbol of Eden, "Shepherd" (2003) , his face-mask is surrounded by a swirl of bodies and animal horns, "The Arba" (1999) - similar to the wheel, "The Ark" (diptych , 2007 ) – which is like an inverted moon as if under the influence of shamanic forces flows in certain worlds - in many works of Larissa compares the understanding of the world by ancients with today's conceptions about eternal things of life. In her works, she creates the Oikoumene (the whole habitable globe). First of all oikoumene of memory of a common cultural space. From this point of view, for example "The Shalop" (2003 ) is almost like at the ancient Egyptians, carries the sun like the sail, and the "Golden Calf " (2005) takes us back to the symbolism of the Sun, that gives light and life to animals and people. Works of Pastushkova interesting with mix of the feelings of archaic cultures with rhythms and energy of our modern world, marked lines, a color, a set of specific elements, design purity in the development of the canvas plane.
It should be noted that from the very beginning of shis career, Larissa Pastushkova didn’t interested in pictorial illusion as an artistic method. She is always set to a visual generalization of the image, and she has always been on the way to select the most distinctive, imaginative - as in the portraits of the '70s, and in the Mongolian and Indian cycles, and especially in the works of the last year’s decade. Talk about cultural memory, an adaptation of the ancient symbolic systems, the development of her own language – we can say about her as she is a creative person, that likes art and aesthetic experience of the cultural heritage. Small wonder, that in 2003 she was awarded a diploma incentive Novosibirsk Biennale of modern graphic "For development of archetypal symbolic systems." The integrity of her nature found expression in the work that is why her development path is absolutely logical.
